Problem

Depression is on the rise in today’s high-tempo society. According to WHO 25% percent of the Europeans suffer from depression during their lifetime. 

In Europe, the total cost of depression is estimated to be over 600 billion euros. In 2008, WHO ranked major depression as the third cause of burden of disease worldwide and projected that the disease will rank first by 2030. Antidepressants are one of the fastest-growing prescribed drugs in Western countries.

 

According to Lancet in practice, its detection, diagnosis, and management often pose challenges for clinicians because of its various presentations, unpredictable course and prognosis, and variable response to treatment.
